Colonel John Chivington responds to the Sand Creek hearings and allegations brought against him claiming he attacked peaceful Indians at Sand Creek. He wrote the Synopsis of the Sand Creek Investigation.

  1. Massacres were kind of common back then. Indians did it and so did the white men and army. On that area julesburg was attacked and the surrounding area farms and ranches

    There are lots of well documented massacres by Indians. the Sanger massacres being but one!!

    It’s a mistake to fault the white men only for such events!!

    1. Julesburg was attacked twice by Cheyenne after Sand Creek, per George Bent. George was at Sand Creek and lived in Black Kettle’s village as a Dog Soldier. About 40 years after Sand Creek, he wrote letters to historians answering their questions about his Cheyenne life and time at Sand Creek. He called Sand Creek a fight and a battle. Most eyewitnesses said Sand Creek was a hard-fought battle.
