Bowen to Present on Lost Sand Creek Site Discovery Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in Lamar

You are invited!

Come learn about the discovery of the Lost Sand Creek Site at our program and book signing on Tuesday, November 10 at 6 p.m. at the Cultural Events Center at 102 E. Parmenter St., Lamar, CO, located next to the library.

Mike Bowen, co-author, We Found the Lost Sand Creek, will present on the discovery of the Lost Sand Creek Site, which is the real location of Black Kettle’s village and Sand Creek running battle areas. This massive discovery of over 4,000 village and battle artifacts was made by his dad, Chuck Bowen, with the assistance of his mother and Chuck’s wife, Sheri Bowen. The presentation will cover a detailed account of how they got involved with Sand Creek and put a plan together to search for artifacts with a metal detector on the Bowen family ranch. With seven miles of Sand Creek going through the ranch, it was a lot of land to cover—it was a monumental project.

The presentation will also cover an overview of the traditional Sand Creek story and how this discovery brings clarity and truth to where things happened and what actually happened at Sand Creek on Nov. 29, 1864.

All of our conclusions are based first on the artifacts, which cannot lie—they were just simply lying under the surface all of those years, waiting for their story to be told. Our conclusions are also based on eyewitness testimony and accounts from eyewitnesses including the George Bent letters and books written by Sand Creek soldier Irving Howbert. Bent was a Cheyenne Dog Soldier and Howbert fought with the Colorado 3rd Cavalry. The truth about Sand Creek is eye-opening.

  1. Bullets dont lie. What Chuck and Sheri and Mike have found is more than just artifacts. Those artifacts also convey a REAL history of where the battles site was ACTUALLY located and a correct view of history! But what has happened to the factual evidence presented by Chuck has been made into political correct history and not honorable to the evidence. We have this problem with the Little Bighorn site as the EVIDENCE destroys the narrative that is current. In order to HONOR the dead on both sides, one must be allowed to let the facts speak for themselves. Chuck found the actual site of the battle using careful observations, historical eyewitness accounts from both the Indians and those in the battle. But unfortunately, there are those who REFUSE to openly credit the find and refuse to move the site where it currently is. It seems that many in the NPS lied to Mr Bowen after telling him that his theories and evidence dont lie and that the NPS would credit him for the discovery. That was a flat out LIE and has distorted the truth based on evidence. In fact, it is a disgrace to the Indians in that area and, I believe, a RACIST reason for it. That part is my opinion. But facts dont lie and neither do bullets when found. For example, it has always been taught that Custer had his final stand in a circle ….a tight circle of a few men, heroically attempting to hold off the Indians attack. But the evidence has shown otherwise and the myth of how it happened is allowed to stand.
The NPS will not correct itself and they also refuse to do so with Chuck Bowen and his discovery. In order to understand history and learn from it you MUST understand how it happened, where it happened and why. Chuck outlines this very well in his book: WE FOUND the LOST SAND CREEK SITE. It is very detailed and much has gone into it to open the door to the truth. What Chuck unwittingly discovered also was just how corrupt our NPS is and the outright refusal to do proper research and historically correct at that. Chucks evidence is being scalped and put on a shelf by our own government and this cannot stand. History is what Chuck desires to allow to stand…not his name. If you are interested in this topic of historical importance, attend and listen. Bring your questions. Try to refute it if you can. History always stands in the balance of the righteous or is destroyed by those corrupt.
