Towner Bus Tragedy

By Mike Bowen

Jesse Melton

Historian Jesse Melton gave a presentation on the Towner Bus Tragedy on October 19, 2017.

The Towner Bus Tragedy, also known as the Pleasant Hill School Bus tragedy, took place on March 26, 1931 in Southeast Colorado during a blizzard which resulted in the death of the bus driver and five children. Melton’s presentation focused on where, when and why it happened.

Chuck Bowen was Vice President of the PCHS at the time and part of his role was to schedule programs. They were well attended and as seen in the group photo, over 50 attended and were very engaged in Melton’s presentation.

Chuck scheduled programs quarterly and they were attended by 50-60 people for each one.
