Introduction

Our Town

Our Town was published in 1986 by MAZ Publishing CO., Sue Binder’s publishing company. The arrangement was by Mona Appel. Sue was part of one of the committees that planned activities for the Lamar Centennial. “Juanita Likes was on that committee also and she knew I wrote poems, lyrics, and suggested I work on a song,” Binder said. Joe Mundell wrote the melody and Sue wrote the lyrics. The BusStop band from Neoplan did the vocals. During the celebration, they sold 45’s, cassettes and sheet music. The cost for the sheet music was $3. “I reviewed history of Lamar and area to help with the lyrics such as the Blackwell Station that was secretly moved. A 45 is framed and last I knew is still on the City Complex wall,” she said.

Lamar will be turning 137 years old this year.
